Julie’s interest in municipal government began very early as she attended Council meetings with a Councillor for her municipality who also happened to be her Dad. She majored in Political Studies at the University of Guelph and started her first municipal role as a Clerks Assistant 29 years ago.
Julie is often sought out to find solutions and give advice that balances constituent, political and corporate needs with legislative requirements. She is guided by a life growing up in the house of an elected official and working on various municipal teams including Clerks, Economic Development, Litigation and the Office of the Mayor.
The strong mayor powers provide another challenge to balance intent with needs and understanding complex legislation. Julie believes strongly in supporting each other through these challenges, sharing knowledge between municipalities and giving back to the village that helped “raise” her. | JulieFinley-Swaren.jpg |
