Strong Mayor Powers – How Does it Impact Municipal Finances?
A two-part webinar series
Webinar Overview
The Government of Ontario is proposing to expand strong mayor powers to 169 municipalities on May 1, 2025. Initially introduced for the cities of Toronto and Ottawa in 2022, Ontario’s strong mayor powers are currently available to 47 municipalities. How have strong mayor powers reshaped municipal budgeting? How can finance staff prepare? Join us for this two-part webinar series for an overview of Ontario strong mayor powers in relation to municipal finances.
What You Will Learn
The first webinar of the series will provide an introduction to Ontario’s strong mayor powers, delving into the legislative background and how it applies to the municipal budgeting process. The webinar will also discuss potential opportunities and challenges that municipal staff may face with implementing strong mayor powers.
